Louis méténier (1844-1922) opened a sandstone factory in the 1880s in gannat in central france that was taken over by his son gilbert in the early 1920s, who ensured the fame of art sandstones. In 1940, gilbert méténier destroyed his mussels and dies, which he refused to see fall into the hands of the germans, the factory closed permanently. The sandstones of méténier, sometimes called "gannat blues", are all the more sought after as their amateurs are guaranteed to encounter only authentic pieces as a result of this destruction. it is not technically possible to make copies of the pieces - mass-produced but finished by hand - created by this factory between 1920 and 1940.
