If there is a factory that has marked the history of contemporary ceramics of the 50s and 60s, it is the pottery of accolay, named after this eponymous village located in the yonne in burgundy which occupied a strategic place on the holiday route between paris and the south of france. Initially manufacturers of ceramic buttons for the couturier christian dior, the potters of accolay quickly evolved towards a more figurative style whose motifs are directly inspired by current events. Thus, in 1968, an exhibition at the grand palais devoted to mayan art gave birth to a collection of ceramics from which this mask is derived. With its grainy texture, its differences in relief, its flat areas of bright colors and its shape that is both organic and asymmetrical, it embodies the entire style of accolay pottery. Hanging on the wall of the living room or above the fireplace, it will look great, and its air both naive and curious will make it a protective and benevolent companion. The mask is in very good general condition. It has no splinters or cracks. Fasteners set in the earth allow it to be hung or fixed on a display. Accolay signature engraved on the back of the mask.
