Antique Victorian platform rocking chair with spring mechanism, c. 188
Beautiful antique Victorian platform rocking chair dating from approximately 1880–1900. An unusual model with a stationary wooden base and an original spring rocking mechanism, allowing the chair to rock independently of the base. The chair features an impressive high back, richly turned wooden spindles and decorative details, together with green upholstered seat, back and padded armrests. The original metal spring mechanism remains visible beneath the seat and is an interesting part of the chair’s construction and history. The wooden frame has a warm aged patina with signs of wear consistent with its age. The upholstery and underside also show age-related wear. Please see photographs for details.
