Ceramic bottle with spout and stopper made in the SMF (Majolika Fabrik Schramberg) workshops between 1928 and 1930. Originally created by Hungarian artist Eva Zeisel (1906-2011) during her European period working for the Schramberg pottery. She left Europe in 1939 for New York, where she continued to produce exceptional ceramic pieces and taught her art at several design schools. The pitcher for sale is Constructivist in style, with geometric lines and hand-painted polychrome decoration. The shape features four symmetrical hollows, giving it a dynamic aesthetic. The cork stopper, glued to a ceramic ball, once removed, reveals a spout for serving liquid. A rare object. One-of-a-kind piece. Good condition, with a lack of glaze on the body and some minor firing defects on the decoration (see photos taken in natural light, some window reflections on the object). Stamp of the SMF Majolika Schramberg pottery, decoration and shape numbers 52 - 1663. Piece numbers 86-2 and decorator 9. I am attaching the image of the article dedicated to the artist from the collection 20th Century Design, published by Taschen in 2016. Dimensions: height 17 cm, diameter 12 cm. Weight without packaging: 340 g.
