Italian ceramics factory founded in 1956 in Schiavon-Vicenza by Giovanni Bertoncello (1930 – 2011) and M. Pizzato, and closed in 1999. Bertoncello ceramics are clearly recognisable by their modern style and typical use of sand and coffee colours. The shapes are geometric and monumental with many bulges and elongated members. The corners and ends are rounded, and round cavities are often created in the forms. Dramatic curves are a recurring feature, as is a very strong sculptural feeling. The colours, brown is called Screziato, the dark brown bicolour is called Tabacco, and Havanna is the name of the lighter, creamier ceramic. The colour Strappante is also available. It is a beige glaze over a dark brown glaze. This latter colour was widely used during the period 1975-1998.
