This five-light candelabrum features a tapered square shaft made of brass, adorned at the lower part with engraved friezes of beaded chevrons, rising from a square base with moulded steps. Four horizontal arms, connected to the shaft by openwork brackets of decreasing circular sizes, hold cylindrical sockets decorated with stamped motifs of lambrequins on wide circular dishes; a fifth light crowns the shaft. This geometric vocabulary — circular cut-outs, chevrons, architecturally structured — is characteristic of the Jugendstil, the German secession of the early 20th century, and refers to the taste of the WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), a major producer of art metal from the period, whose pieces combined industrial production with avant-garde design. Condition report: Good overall condition. Brass with a uniform patina, engraved and stamped decorations clearly legible, sound structure. An architectural candelabrum, superb as a centrepiece or on a mantelpiece, that complements both a 1900 interior and a contemporary one.
