This charming candy dish or sugar bowl is made of cold-painted opaline glass. Molded from opaline glass, it depicts a hen on her wicker nest. It's a white hen with a red comb and a brown neck. The basket is painted opaque yellow. It most likely comes from the Portieux or Vallerysthal glassworks. Dating from the early 20th century, these pressed-molded glass boxes were sold at fairs and local markets. Divided into two parts, they were used to hide small egg-shaped candies, sugared almonds, or chocolates. The details are precise: the feathers are well-defined, the eggs are visible under the wings, the head is turned, and the tail is open. In good overall condition, I note a chip on the edge of the lid, a chip on the beak, and two chips on the tail. Dimensions: 9 x 11 x 10 cm. A delightful box to collect, give as a gift, or repurpose: as a sugar bowl on your table, a ring holder, or a cotton ball container in your bathroom...
