Antique Louis XVI ribbon basket carafe pitcher acid etching pantogravure

This magnificent jug is made of engraved glass decorated with guilloché friezes. It is a large, rounded pitcher. The Louis XVI style pantogravure decoration is delightful: a guilloché ornament of flower baskets, garlands and ribbon bows. This guilloché technique was widespread in the 19th century and at the very beginning of the 20th century: the glass was coated with wax and the decoration was drawn with a needle in pantogravure in the wax, then the object was immersed in an acid bath which attacks the bare glass. In good condition, it measures 25 cm in height X 15 cm in diameter. I note a slight interior deposit and scratches from use.
