The “Ultima 15” ashtray was created by the visual artist duo Beck & Jung [Bo Ljungberg (1942-2007) & Holger Bäckström (1939-1997)]. This ashtray exemplifies the sculptural fusion of a functional object and geometric art. Produced in Denmark for Diverse Ting, a design gallery and concept store in Malmö, Sweden, in the 1970s, this piece reflects the studio’s signature blend of graphic abstraction and material experimentation. Made from cast aluminum, it features a square shape topped with a removable lid adorned with a relief pattern of repeated concave and convex geometric elements arranged in a tight grid. Its precise and systematic patterns echo the visual language of 1970s computer graphics and op art, both of which strongly influenced Beck & Jung’s overall artistic output. *** Dimensions: 15 X 15 X 5.2 cm high.
