This solid cherry wood piece of furniture from the Rennes region stands out for the harmonious balance of its four-door front, its small dimensions, and the quality of its cabinetmaking. The moulded panels, with soft and generous curves, reveal an expert hand and a strong taste for the lively lines characteristic of provincial productions from the early 19th century. The slightly overhanging, scrolled cornice, resembling a gendarme's hat, gives the piece a noble presence, while the sculpted, undulating lower rail and the curved feet ending in scrolls enhance its authentic character. In the centre, two drawers with drop handles and decorative heart-shaped entries sit above a sliding top that is perfectly integrated into the front. The interior of the piece, organised with shelves, offers a generous volume intended for linen or other items. The warm and bright hue of the cherry wood highlights every sculpted detail and gives the whole a unique visual softness. A character piece, both functional and decorative, this rare furniture exemplifies the regional craftsmanship of a bygone era. Period: first half of the 19th century.
