Midcentury biomorphic sculptural wall mirror, France, 1960s

Sculptural wall mirror from France, 1960s, with a freeform carved wood frame. The outline is asymmetrical, with two curved notches cut into the top and bottom edges. The frame is built up in stepped layers, a raised inner plateau rising from the outer rim, with a bevelled recess around the pear-shaped mirror plate. The wood has a warm brown tone with fine grain and darker figure, and has been waxed or finished to a soft sheen. The inner bevel shows a darker, deeper tone. Its organic form is typical of French artisan and studio production of the period. Dimensions: height 51 cm, width 35 cm, depth 5 cm.
