Desvres faience plate – Decoration on both sides – Circa 1890-1910

Large earthenware dish from Desvres, in the Old Rouen style, entirely hand-painted. Its contoured shape is enhanced by a polychrome decoration applied to both sides, an uncommon finish for this type of production. The front is adorned with two flower baskets surrounded by butterflies, a bird, and a scattering of small flowers. A woven red border highlights the outline of the dish. The reverse: complete decoration consisting of flowering branches, insects, and plant motifs, executed with the same care as the main face. This double-sided decoration distinguishes this piece. No stamp is present under the dish. The attribution to Desvres is based on its manufacturing characteristics and decorative repertoire. Production circa 1890-1910. Diameter 27.5 cm, height 4 cm. In beautiful vintage condition, with uniform glaze crazing, slight wear from use, small signs of age, shiny (see photos). Double-sided decorations are among the least common finishes of Old Rouen style earthenware.
