Spiral floor lamp by Henri Mathieu 1970s

Vintage floor lamp by French lighting designer Henri Mathieu. This impressive statement lamp is a beautiful example of the futuristic Space Age aesthetic associated with French lighting design of the 1970s. The lamp features countless aluminium slats forming a distinctive spiral shape, which transforms the light as it filters through, creating a fascinating interplay of light and shadow which gives an almost kinetic effect. Henri Mathieu is particularly known for his sculptural lighting designs using curved metal strips and layered aluminium elements. His distinctive approach transformed functional lighting into decorative works of art, combining geometric precision with organic movement. This item is in near perfect (vintage) condition, with hardly any traces of age-related wear.
