String twisted metal wall shelves

Set of two wall shelves that were called "string shelves". Very light, modular, easy to dismantle and move, they were designed by Kajsa and Nils Strinning for a competition launched by a Swedish publishing house to relaunch the purchase of books! So practical and pretty that they were a worldwide success during the 50s and 60s and were available in many versions. Each comes in 5 parts: 3 shelves in dark brown lacquered metal to be inserted on 2 uprights in thin twisted gold metal rods. They only stand upright when hung on the wall (using 2 hooks not supplied that are inserted between the two metal rods of each upright) or wedged between two walls or other. They are in good structural condition, welds intact, no deformations that would prevent assembly, but obviously, they show signs that testify to their age: small areas with superficial corrosion, mainly located on the internal faces of the folded edges, small marks and scratches numerous but not excessively visible, very slight deformations of the metal of the shelves, superficial corrosion on the gilded uprights. They can be used as is but can also be easily repainted. They each measure 58 cm high, 49 cm wide, 17 cm deep.
