This original drawing by jean target captures the grace and elegance of indian dancer mrinalini sarabhai. Made in red chalk and watercolor, this sketch magnificently illustrates the movement and posture of the dancer. Mrinalini sarabhai (1918-2016) was a renowned indian classical dancer, choreographer and instructor, founder of the darpana academy of performing arts. Jean target (1910-1997), french painter and sculptor, specialized in the representation of dance and was official painter of the paris opera from 1932 to 1960. This drawing, mounted on art paper, measures 38 cm X 28.5 cm (margins included). In excellent state of conservation, it presents a slight coloring of the paper, testimony to its authenticity and its period.
