Here is an adorable little jug made of chamotte stoneware with a beautiful glaze in varying shades of grey, milky, showcasing excellent artisanal work in turning, shaping, and glazing. It is signed in relief and by hand, VN underneath (which is difficult to see on the chamotte stoneware). This ceramic comes from the workshop, Les poteries de la Vallée Noire, which has been closed for years, featuring its distinctive glaze known as "Gris de Verneuil"! This workshop, which existed since 1832 (previously Mijoin workshop), was the last in Verneuil-sur-Igneraie, whereas there were 19 in the 19th century. The workshop's stamp is not visible, indicating that this ceramic was not part of the last pieces from the workshop; before that, ceramics were marked VN by hand. This jug has a small ceramic stopper, which also bears the letter H on one side. The jug is in good condition, with no cracks, just a small chip on the edge of the base, and the stopper has a chip. The jug measures 10.5 cm in height, 13 cm in height with the stopper, approximately 8 cm in width from the belly to the handle, and about 7.5 cm in maximum diameter.
