Bird ashtray signed Filmont Calvados

Very beautiful polychrome ceramic ashtray, a basin with a small bird that is going to drink water, whose turquoise color is particularly pretty. It is a beautiful craftsmanship of modeling and enameling. It is marked underneath in hollow in the mass, on the one hand with the mention Calvados, quite legible and a signature in duplicate. After much research, it appears that it could be a ceramic from the J. Filmont workshop in Caen. Several elements, which I will present to you, tend to confirm this, but I will let you judge. This workshop specialized in finials in polychrome enamels from the middle of the 19th century until 1936, in Caen, in Calvados, but also produced other objects, including animal sculptures, always with polychrome enameling. We also find traces of the sale of (live) birds during the young years that Joseph Filmont spent in England, he even received a prize for this, he had a real interest in birds, and this is confirmed by the fact that we find other J. Filmont ceramics representing birds, on which we find similar colors. And finally, the signature which seems illegible when read in the same direction as Calvados, could well correspond to Filmont if we put the object in the other direction, it then resembles the signatures on the ceramics leaving the J.Filmont workshop (Joseph Filmont was the founder and the "designer" of the creations but would perhaps never have modeled himself). And last element, the Bavent pottery which bought some of Filmont's molds, which I contacted, also leans towards the Filmont track, but could not provide me with any proof or certainty. This ceramic could therefore date from before 1936. It is in very good condition, no cracks, no chips, not even a chip. This ashtray measures approximately 14 cm in length (including the bird's tail), 9 cm in width, and 4.5 cm in height.
