Description: Splendid trinket dish (or pencil case) from the Napoléon III era, made of lacquered papier-mâché in a rare reddish-brown. A refined testament to the 19th-century taste for the Orient. A precious decoration: A lively scene of Asian characters engaged in deep discussion in a garden. The detail is remarkable: the faces are made of inlaid mother-of-pearl, adding an iridescent shine, while the garden and foliage are painted in gold. The border is adorned with golden garlands, delicately patinated by time. Historical provenance: It bears its original label from the Maison A. DESAVIS on the reverse, located at Palais Bonne Nouvelle, 60-62 (Paris). A guarantee of authenticity and quality for this establishment of wickerwork and luxury items from the era.
