Vintage Italian Bamboo Rattan Coat Stand 1970s

A wonderfully sculptural vintage coat stand in bent bamboo and rattan, Italian, dating to the 1970s. The design is immediately striking: a central bamboo pole rises from a circular splayed base, sprouting at intervals into generously curved spiral hooks — each one a continuous loop of bent rattan that curves outward and back on itself, functional as a coat hook but beautiful enough to read as pure decorative gesture. At the top, a final cluster of loops forms a crown-like finish. Midway up the stand, a circular rattan ring provides an integrated umbrella or walking stick holder — a practical detail executed with the same fluid elegance as the rest of the piece. The whole composition casts extraordinary shadows on surrounding walls — the looping, branching forms creating a pattern that looks like calligraphy or abstract line drawing.
