A fantastic mid-century modern dish or plate made by the talented Janet Leach. The plate is known as 'Repeat ware' from St. Ives, England. Janet Leach is often described as one of the leading potters of the second half of the twentieth century from St Ives. The Leach Pottery produced some groundbreaking designs and techniques, and her work was fiercely independent, with a powerful identity and always a sculptural form, making her pieces unique art objects. This small plate has a fantastic shape, simple, yet the glazing makes it special: a combination of tenmoku glaze crossed with an ash-glazed rim. As with most of her work, it has muted colours, grey with a speckled effect and a roast brown edge. It is stamped at the base with the artist's seal and The Leach Pottery St Ives seal, as well as the original tag. It is 3.5 cm high and 13 cm in a square form. It is overall in very good condition, but note there is a small hairline crack underneath the plate from production (hardly noticeable and reflected in the price). Nevertheless, this is still a fantastic and unique piece from a talented artist.
