At the same time, he began a career as a director and set designer in 1886, from the shadow theater to the Cabaret du Chat Noir, shows he enhanced with the creation of highly innovative color sets. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, woodcuts, lithography, and watercolor (he painted approximately a thousand watercolors).
