Mid-century modern vase, pressed rose glass, Poland, 1950s

A vase produced at the Bolesław Morawski Glassworks in Radomsko in the 1950s is an example of post-war modernist glass design in Poland. The form is slender and distinctly vertical, with a body divided by vertical ribs that smoothly transition into a square, gently rounded base. The upper edge, wavy and notched, evokes the motif of an open flower and gives the entire object a subtle, organic accent. The pressed glass, in a delicate, rose, light-pink shade, is highly transparent and shiny, revealing the quality of the material and production technique—characteristic, sharp details of the moulded form and matrix joint lines are left as a mark of craftsmanship. The surface is free of decorations or applications, emphasizing the modernist minimalism of mid-century. The condition is very good—no visible damage, losses, or discoloration. This item echoes a time when Polish glass turned everyday objects into an expression of the pursuit of harmony and order. The rose colour, muted and cool, tells of the atmosphere of the 1950s: pragmatism, but also a gentle hope hidden in the simplicity of things.
