Diameter: 79 cm Height: 74 cm Maurizio Tempestini ITALY, 1908-1960 The Italian architect and furniture designer Maurizio Tempestini is particularly known for his outdoor furniture, notably his sculptural "Clamshell" line and other modern and elegant mid-century pieces intended for patios and gardens. Born in Florence in 1908, Tempestini completed his studies in industrial decoration at the Porta Romana Art Institute in 1929. His career as an interior architect and furniture and lighting designer took off in the early 1930s. During this time, Tempestini also worked as a set designer for several Italian theatrical productions, such as Mario Massa's *L’Osteria degli immortali* and Luigi Bonelli's comedy *Il Gigli*. Tempestini then transitioned from the stage to furniture and decorative object design. He created pieces for the Cantagalli ceramic factory in Florence, as well as for the Murano glassmakers Seguso and Cappellin. In 1934, Tempestini worked on the exterior renovation of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, located on the Parterre di San Gallo in Florence, for the Littoriali Exhibition. Later, in 1938, he founded a firm with other architects.
