Child's armchair in the style of Charles Dudouyt made of solid wood, with a cord seat. France, mid-20th century. Low armchair for children made of turned solid wood, with a strong rustic build. The front and back posts end in large turned ball finials, characteristic of mountain furniture from the 1940s-1950s. The seat is made of braided cord with a crossed pattern. The low, slightly curved backrest is formed by two superimposed solid crosspieces. The short armrests, also ending in turned finials, rest directly on the front legs. A low stretcher connects the four legs and ensures the stability of the whole. Rustic and neo-regionalist style, very representative of children's furniture produced in France in the 1940s-1950s, a period when cabinetmakers drew inspiration from the robust lines of traditional mountain and peasant furniture, reinterpreting them on a smaller scale for children's furniture. The solid turning of the posts, the ball finials, and the hand-woven straw seat are typical of this regional artisanal production. Total height: 60 cm. Depth: 38 cm. Width: 44 cm. Seat height: 24 cm. Seat width: 32 cm. Seat depth: 31 cm. Beautiful dark patina of the wood, uniform across the entire seat, indicating previous use. Seat in good condition, with no holes or notable sagging. Some small marks and superficial chips on the posts, not affecting the stability of the seat. The whole is stable, with no movement in the joints.
