The "rack" is a metal rod with notches that were hung in kitchen chimneys, in farms, to hang above the fire cauldrons, pots or other containers. The rack is suspended above the heart of the hearth, from a horizontal bar fixed in the fireplace. The rack can also be attached to a swivel stem, fixed on the side of the chimney, which makes it easy to keep the container away from the fire. The rack being, until the nineteenth century an essential object in the house, gave birth to a nice custom: the "rack hanging". The rack, called chimney, allows to hang, at variable height, a pot or a servant above the fireplace to heat water or cook food. Length: from 1.19 m to 1.50 m.
