Founded on February 2, 1821 by the brothers Ferdinand-Louis de Bousies, Charles de Bousies (Vicomte de Rouveroy), their cousin the Chevalier Adolphe de Bousies and Baron Frédéric de Sécus, the Onnaing earthenware factory was initially a new establishment of the Belgian Nimy factory, intended to circumvent customs duties[1]. From 1827, the factory was bought several times and, in 1894, became the Onnaing earthenware limited company. Onnaing earthenware factory around 1910, main facade. The century of expansion. To modify. From the end of the 19th century, the Onnaing earthenware factory developed to directly employ 500 workers. It benefits from the extension of the rail network which allows it to both source raw materials and export its production. At the height of its expansion, the factory covered more than 6 hectares. The decline. To modify. The destruction caused by the First World War strongly affected the factory: ovens, molds and buildings were destroyed. The restart of production in 1921 did not allow it to return to the levels of the beginning of the century. Demand also evolved and manufacturing ceased in 1938. The factory was definitively liquidated in 1947.
