This modernist German low sideboard, published by Schifferdecker (a German brand, with a label on the back of the furniture), dates back to the 1960s and accurately embodies the functional elegance of mid-century design from Western Europe. At the intersection of the rigour of German modernism and Scandinavian simplicity, it captivates with its clean lines and sense of proportion. Its particularly successful façade is one of its strong points: at the top, two drawers side by side; at the bottom, a double cupboard closed by two solid doors, revealing two compartments separated by a central partition. Without visible handles, the whole forms a neat and graphic volume, with great purity. This composition creates a harmonious visual rhythm while offering excellent storage capacity in a low and elongated format. The pronounced wood grain, with a strong graphic effect, reveals a veneer of beautiful quality, typical of German productions from this period. Its warm and deep hue is highlighted by the contrast with the grey metal base, composed of a thin frame resting on straight legs, which lightens the piece and makes it almost float above the ground. The whole is perfectly proportioned and reflects careful craftsmanship, characteristic of the Schifferdecker publisher. Versatile, this low sideboard can be used as a compact sideboard in a living room, a TV unit, a vinyl storage unit, or a storage piece in a bedroom or hallway, adding a structured and timeless vintage touch. It has been completely sanded to remove a previous very shiny and thick varnish, then protected with a light oak matte varnish to reveal the richness of its wood veneer and contrasts. The veneer has been preserved, and the metal base, in its original grey colour, has simply been cleaned. Dimensions in cm: 52 (H) X 110 (W) X 39 (D) Materials: Wood and wood veneer.
