Cobalt blue double-layered crystal vase, signed G. Raspiller. Delicate decoration of cornflowers and a butterfly perfectly in line with the naturalistic style that was very fashionable in decorative glassware from the late 19th to early 20th century. The contrast between the colourless crystal and the deep cobalt blue layer creates stunning light effects and highlights the craftsmanship. Germain Raspiller (1881–1956) comes from a family of glassmakers and engravers from Lorraine. He specialised in the decoration of crystal and glass. He contributed to the production of decorative glassware in collaboration with several workshops and glassworks in Eastern France and Central Europe. His work is distinguished by fine floral compositions, often inspired by nature (wildflowers, insects, birds), executed with great precision in engraving.
