Period: ca. 1895-1920. This pretty double-tiered brass harness is typical of the style produced by the wiener werkstatte, a group of progressive artists from the vienna secession. It would suit many contemporary interiors. Three tubular legs are held together, first by a circular hammered brass container, then by a rectangular top tray. This tray is lined with brass which is adorned with a series of four simple squares; a motif that was widely used in art nouveau linear movements. The circular container is held at the feet with small spheres, a typical feature of the designs of k. Moser and j. Hoffman. The coin was bought in a sad state; it was polished to reveal the brass color. The upper level lacked the finishing plate (probably originally hammered brass plate), as did the round support. I embellished it with reptile leatherette in a duck green color. Condition: structurally well. Oxidation stains in some places that I could not remove when polishing. Faux leather is new. Small irregularities around the brass edge on the top tray. See photos. Dimensions: 105 cm high, 42 X 30.5 cm tray, 30.5 cm wide floor, 4 kg.
