Iron earth is a fine earthenware made whiter and more resistant thanks to the addition of feldspar (a mineral compound) and kaolin (white clay). Earthenware compared to porcelain, is lighter and has a matte appearance. It was widely used at the end of the nineteenth century to make antique tableware services like the one we offer which dates from the same period. This one is stamped longwy. This famous lorraine earthenware factory was founded in 1798 by charles régnier. This model, "mésanges" is very popular with lovers of old tableware. It is extremely rare to find so many pieces together and this allows you to consider a beautiful table for 6 people. It is indeed composed of 6 flat plates, 6 hollow plates and a large serving dish. Its monochrome décor in shades of blue is remarkable for finesse. The floral motifs as well as the chickadees with different postures, are precise, careful. The vegetable garnish is rich and we appreciate the attention to detail. These antique pieces with remarkable aesthetics are treasures of know-how to which we are always happy to offer a new life... The 12 plates have no enamel jumps or feles which is remarkable for their great age. The grounds are not altered. On the other hand, there are some brown traces due to time on some of them. 2 flat plates have a uniform darker background. The dish has a small chip on one of the edges (see photos). But all these marks of time testify to their long life and do not alter the beauty and charm of this magnificent old service. The dishwasher is obviously to be avoided. Diameter flat plates: 24 cm. Diameter hollow plates: 24 cm. Serving dish: 25 cm / 35 cm. Set weight: 5.5 kg.
