Superb antique hand candlestick. In solid bronze, representing a flower and a leaf, in the art nouveau style. Signed "m. Maignan" by the hand of the artist in engraving. Also "e. Colin & cie paris", master founder. Maurice maignan (1868, neufchâtel-en-bray, france -1946, paris, france) is a french sculptor who worked in the art nouveau style. The materials he used are bronze and marble. He was an artist with a social spirit, as evidenced by his publication "aesthetic economy; the social question will be resolved by aesthetics" (paris, éditions de l'art décoratif, 1912). The remains of his body were buried in the columbarium of père-lachaise in paris.
