FOR SALE — Punch/cider service, spiced wine, in German stoneware from Westerwald — Late 19th century. Complete lot including: • 1 large covered bowl with lid (figurine on top) • 6 matching mugs. • 1 metal ladle with twisted wooden handle. 📍 ORIGIN & PERIOD Authentic stoneware from Westerwald (Rhineland, Germany), likely dating from the period 1880-1910. Model number 391/8 moulded into the clay — typical marking of productions prior to the 1920s, before the widespread use of factory stamps. 🔥 TECHNIQUE Salt-glazed stoneware (Salzglasur): fired at very high temperatures (1200-1300°C) with the projection of salt in the kiln, creating a characteristic natural vitrified glaze. The figurative reliefs were moulded separately and then applied by hand. The deep cobalt blue colour is achieved by applying cobalt oxide before firing. Unadorned beige interior, typical of this ancient technique. 🎨 DECOR German historicist style: lively festive scenes with characters in Renaissance/baroque period costumes, oak leaf borders, floral medallions, and classical scrolls in high relief cream white on a cobalt blue background. Perfect for serving hot cider, Glühwein, or punch during festive evenings. Price: €350 for the complete lot — not separable. Possibility to view on site. Serious inquiries only. No shipping.
