Brutalist wooden chair, oromo type, ethiopia, circa 1950. Low chair in hardwood, carved by talented craftsmen. Rests on a foot worked in cross, typical of the ethiopian style. Decoration of scarifications in the wood on the edge of the feet as well as on the edge of the seat. Pierced rectangular high backrest. This chair with a slightly curved round seat is particularly unique. The oromo (also called borana) are shepherds of warrior tradition who live in ethiopia but also in neighboring somalia and kenya. The oromos in kenya are basically very few in number. They are a minority while they are the majority ethnic group in ethiopia. A man's status is calculated by the number of cattle he owns. The craftsmen of the oromo clans work on monoxyl pieces, that is to say carved from a single block of solid wood. In very good general condition, some traces of wear. 74 X 35 cm. Heavy piece of solid wood. Delivery to paris / reims / laon, another region via cocolis.
