Lounge chair by theo ruth. Dutch designer theo ruth was born in 1915 in maastricht. He studied furniture and interior design at the middelbare kunstnijverheidsschool in maastricht. In 1936, he joined artifort, and specialized in the design of living room furniture. Theo ruth is the first permanent designer at artifort, and has a very important impact on the design that has resulted. Among his most famous pieces are the congo chair (1952), the penguin chair (1957), both composed of two parts that assemble without lock or nail. In the same spirit of structural assembly, he created the lounge chair. And we found one! The upholstery of this iconic piece was in a pitiful state (probably redone in the course of the 1970s), so we fell for this felt of mottled gray wool, more timeless and which fits easily into current interiors.
