Ronéo black enamelled ceramic pocket emptier by Jean Kounietz

Sculptural piece in matte black ceramic, signed Jean Kounietz, made in the 1950s–1960s. Its rough, almost volcanic surface is punctuated by circular indentations glazed in vibrant tones: burnt orange, emerald green, turquoise and acid yellow. These luminous hollows, embedded in the dark mass, form a strong and captivating visual contrast. The signature has been covered by the glaze but the model remains identifiable. Its impressive weight of 1.68 kg gives it great stability and a strong presence. An expressive piece, between brutalism, abstraction and post-war French modernism. To be displayed as a sculpture, a trinket dish or a centerpiece.
