Vintage Sarouk wool rug, rose field & diamond medallion, c. 1950s

A beautiful vintage Sarouk rug from the 1950s, hand-knotted in the great workshop tradition of the western Middle East, in the most celebrated Sarouk format: warm rose/salmon field with central diamond medallion and scrolling corner sprays. The terracotta/salmon-rose field is soft, warm, and luminous, suitable for traditional, contemporary, or maximalist interiors. The central diamond medallion features floral rosettes in navy, ivory, pink, red, and caramel, outlined in dark navy. Each corner has a large scrolling boteh/paisley spray in brown/caramel with blue and ivory detail. The border is pale pink/ivory with a continuous large floral scroll, framed by dark navy guard borders. At 69 × 76 cm, this is a perfect entrance mat, bedside rug, or desk mat. The rug is in good vintage condition with full and lustrous pile, vivid colours, worn fringe, and partial professional fabric backing on the reverse.
