The lithograph is very fresh in colour; once framed, the defects will be invisible. Sold as presented. Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then moved to soft-ground etching, specifically etching in 1882. At the same time, he started a career as a director and set designer in 1886 at the shadow theatre in the Chat Noir cabaret, enhancing performances by creating innovative coloured backdrops. He then dedicated himself exclusively to painting and engraving, establishing himself in the history of etching, printmaking, wood engraving, lithography, and watercolour (he painted around a thousand watercolours).
