Crystal decanter by Emile Gallé 1880

Emile galle (1846-1904). Grand master french glassmaker. Large carafe in blown crystal and entirely decorated by hand, amber (yellow - green), with finely fluted body on ribbed pedestal, decorated with a leafy frieze of golden laurels. Very rare signature engraved at the tip of the first period of emile galle under the base: E.gallé in nancy "deposited" + gg + form number 7. Number 54 engraved on the cap (photo n° 9). Number 88 engraved on the collar (photo n° 10). Given this signature, it can be said that this decanter was made and signed by the hand of the master himself. Art nouveau period 1880 - 1890. The general condition is "quite good" except 1 non-crossing crack in an arc which descends from the base of the neck to the beginning of the rumen (5 cm), then continues on part of the rumen in width (7 cm); it is only visible from one side (see photos n° 6 and 7). Light patina of time on some parts of the gilding (carafe + cap). Some surface roughness on the neck (typical of a job done 100% by hand). The cap is in perfect structural condition. This explains the low selling price; this type of piece in perfect condition sells between 2500 and 5000 euros in the auction room. This decanter would be ideal for a beginning of collection, very large decoration, or to replace the broken cap on an equivalent piece. Dimensions (in centimeters approximately): Carafe: Height 30 cm with cap. Height 24 cm without cap. Neck diameter: 3 cm. Diameter of the pedestal: 7.5 cm. Width of the rumen (at the widest): 13 cm. Stopper: Total cap length 8.5 cm. Diameter inner part in contact with the decanter: 2 cm. Length inner part in contact with the decanter: 2.5 cm.
