Like the beni ouarain and mrirt carpets, it is distinguished by a thick and dense wool whose first use is to be an effective insulator to sleep and protect from the cold.  However, the azilal carpet differs from the others by its colors: the wool is dyed to create geometric patterns with shimmering colors, often on an ivory or ecru background.
