Exceptional walnut dining table – Restoration / Charles X period – 19th century – 6 legs – double drop-leaf. Very beautiful antique walnut dining table, with a striking presence and particularly elegant proportions, attributable to the early 19th century, Restoration / Charles X period, around 1825–1840. The table features a remarkable walnut top with beautiful grain, composed of wide elements carefully joined together. The natural richness of the wood, the variations in hue, and the old patina give it a lot of character. It rests on six turned and crafted walnut legs, adorned with moulding and rings that fully contribute to the aesthetic of French furniture from the first half of the 19th century. A particularly functional piece of furniture. The table is designed with two drop-leaves, allowing for considerable modulation of its dimensions. It can thus be used: • without drop-leaf: 71 × 132 cm. • with 1 drop-leaf: 99 × 132 cm. • with 2 drop-leaves: 132 × 132 cm. An independent extension completes the set: • without extension and without drop-leaf: 71 × 132 cm. • with 1 drop-leaf: 99 × 132 cm. • with 2 drop-leaves: 132 × 132 cm. • with extension and without drop-leaf: 118 × 132 cm. • with extension + 1 drop-leaf: 149 × 132 cm. • with extension + 2 drop-leaves: 178 × 132 cm. It can comfortably accommodate 6 people without the extension and up to 8 people with the extension, depending on the configuration. Old construction. The design of the piece is particularly interesting: old wooden runners, traditional joinery, antique fittings, and a characteristic opening system of furniture from this period. The photographs also show the construction and mechanisms under the top. The table naturally shows signs of use, small marks, variations in patina, and old interventions/repairs, particularly visible under the piece. These elements are consistent with its age and testify to its history.
