Berber Carpet Terracotta - 357 x 191 cm

Vintage carpet from the Middle Atlas|Handwoven wool carpet, adorned with rosette-shaped medallions on a terracotta background. This vintage carpet from the Middle Atlas is distinguished by a central cross-shaped medallion in navy blue. Richly detailed, it features interior patterns in light brown and cream tones, all standing out against a warm terracotta background. On either side of this central motif, above and below, are circular rosettes in navy blue and light brown; each is surrounded by scalloped petals and bears a small tribal symbol in its centre. Columns of floral motifs with four petals — rendered in navy blue, light brown, and cream — run along both sides of the carpet, while a fine border made up of several bands frames the entire composition. Tiny figures representing animals and stars are scattered among the main motifs. Hand-knotted with thick wool, this carpet comes from the Béni Mellal-Khénifra region in the Moroccan Middle Atlas. It illustrates an ornamental and floral aspect of local weaving. Its rosettes and cartouches are crafted with great precision, reflecting a symmetry that resembles a more formal design — centred on the medallion — rather than a freer abstraction. The patina of the terracotta background and the delicate wear of the pile attest to its age, the result of several decades of use. With its warm terracotta background and finely crafted rosettes, this vintage carpet from the Middle Atlas is a true collector's piece, ideal for interiors that favour elaborate patterns, rich colours, and an authentic history. Authentic craftsmanship from the Middle Atlas, handmade. Each carpet is hand-knotted using traditional techniques from the Middle Atlas: Berber women shape a dense wool pile, row by row, directly on the loom.
