Selene chair by vico magistretti for the italian company artemide. he will work 10 years for the firm with a guideline of simple and functional designs. this chair was created in 1969 and is representative of the time with its simple design, but especially by the use of plastic that became a standard during the 60s. The name selene was not chosen at random referring to the greek goddess of the moon, this choice is related to the aesthetics of the chair and its organic shape evoking the moon.  it won many awards including the compaso d'oro in 1979 thereafter it will be exhibited in many museum collections establishing its status as an icon of italian design. Several special editions have been produced either with other designers such as nendo with an edition produced by depadova or using other materials or colors as for example with the edition released for the los angeles olympics in 1984. This model is no longer produced to this day. Its simplistic structure in its appearance is actually an innovative work for its time, made from a monobloc molding of plastic shaped by pressure. its resistance is ensured thanks to the 3 mm thick plastic as well as the "s" curves of the base absorbing the pressure exerted by the user. the curvature of the backrest makes it possible to offer better ergonomics. the grooves on the shell allow chairs to be stacked stably and save space when not in use. In good condition, a few scratches on the chair.
