He began by working for great couturiers of the time, like molyneux. But the second world war broke out, and he was forced to give up his job. Returning to his region in 1940, he was offered the artistic direction of the lelong collections, a position he enthusiastically accepted. He then created his fashion house in 1945, which he naturally named "pierre balmain", and had as his assistant a certain karl lagerfeld. Her creations, elegant, modern and chic, sublimating women, seduce the public but also stars such as brigitte bardot, and crowned heads. His popularity rating skyrocketed, with the creator surrounding himself with nearly 600 employees. He designed work uniforms and costumes for the 1968 jo. He died in 1982, following a long illness.
