Signed bottom left Poujet. The painter, André Poujet (1919-1996), is close to the surrealists. He began at the Esquisse gallery, which also exhibited Kandinsky, de Staël, and Poliakoff, and was later exhibited at the Denise René gallery. In 1942, he married Aline Gagnaire, with whom he opened a bookshop-gallery at 52 quai des Orfèvres. This is the most accomplished and sought-after period of the painter's work.
