Important oil on canvas signed "Last RUMGR" and dated "BXL 1980". This expressive composition representing a stylised bird, a female face, and floral elements revisits the famous theme "Lunar vamp and night bird" developed by Corneille, an artist born in Liège, Belgium, to Dutch parents, and a major figure of the CoBrA movement. The interest of this work also lies in the old inscriptions on the back of the frame: a handwritten note in Dutch, "Eigendom van..." ("Property of..."), followed by a collector's name and the mention of Zele, a Flemish municipality in Belgium. These elements indicate that the painting belonged to a private Belgian collection in a Dutch-speaking region. The whole is coherent from a historical and geographical perspective: a work signed in Brussels in 1980, subsequently kept in a Flemish collection, and inspired by a theme related to Corneille, an artist at the intersection of Belgian and Dutch cultures. This context resonates with the CoBrA movement, born from exchanges between COpenhagen, BRussels, and Amsterdam. Beautiful oil painting material, very nice decorative presence, and large format. Very good overall condition. Canvas dimensions: 70 X 100 cm. Dimensions with frame: 114 X 82 cm. ⚠️ Please contact me before any purchase to adjust the delivery costs as accurately as possible.
