It is a true biomorphic sculpture that was created by the sculptor and designer Noguchi in 1939 for the president of MOMA (Museum of Modern Art in New York). According to legend, Georges NELSON asked NOGUCHI if he could use the prototype of the table he was working on to illustrate one of his articles. He was so appreciative of this table that he convinced Herman MILLER to produce it in the early 1950s. It then became NOGUCHI's most emblematic work.
