This three-panel folding screen is a fine example of the elegant decorative objects that French workshops produced for the luxury interior market during the 1970s. The screen consists of three equal glass panels, each framed in a polished brass frame with a clean rectangular profile and slightly rounded upper corners — a form of understated refinement that avoids both the severity of the purely geometric and the excess of the decorative. The panels are connected by brass hinges that allow the screen to be deployed in a shallow arc or folded flat for storage. The glass itself is the most striking element of the object: a deep grey-green hue that absorbs light with a quiet intensity, giving the surface an almost mineral quality. Depending on the ambient light, the glass can appear successively as sage green, deep teal, or almost black — a chromatic variability that enlivens the room throughout the day. This tinted glass was a material of great sophistication in the 1970s, selectively employed by designers and decorators who wished to introduce depth and colour into interiors without the heaviness of solid materials. The polished brass framing provides the necessary counterpoint to the cold translucency of the glass: its warm golden tone, precisely mitered at the corners and featuring a shiny polish, frames each panel with clarity and a finish that attests to the quality of the craftsmanship. The brass is present without dominating, allowing the glass to take on the role of the main protagonist while imparting a sense of material luxury to the whole. At 53.5 cm wide by 57 cm high, this screen is well proportioned for use in front of a medium-sized fireplace. Its combination of tinted glass and polished brass — both materials associated with the highest register of French interior decoration of its time.
