Neoclassical canapé and conversation chairs by Maison Rémy, Paris, France, 1986, set of 3.
Maison Rémy Paris — Models P6136 and P6137. Rare and documented French neoclassical salon set, consisting of a pair of armchairs and a small " tête-à-tête" conversation sofa, made by Maison Rémy Paris in 1986. The original invoice, dated 1st August 1986, has been preserved and accompanies the set. It identifies the conversation sofa as model P6137 "Confident" and the two matching armchairs as model P6136. The pieces are made of cherry wood and upholstered in the original "Tzarine" fabric. The design offers an elegant interpretation, typical of the late 20th century, of French Empire and neoclassical style furniture. Its sculptural silhouette is distinguished by gracefully curved saber-shaped armrests, slightly undulating backs, sculpted lion head feet highlighted in black and gold, as well as legs ending in spectacular black lion paws. The original upholstery, in a golden yellow colour, is enhanced by decorative brass nailhead trim. Its warm hue harmonises beautifully with the rich tones of the cherry wood, giving the set a particularly refined and theatrical presence. This ensemble showcases the high level of craftsmanship associated with the best cabinet-making workshops of Faubourg Saint-Antoine in the late 20th century. Both decorative and functional, it would make a remarkable addition to a Haussmannian apartment, a private library, a reception room, a boutique hotel, an executive office, or a sophisticated classic interior. The three pieces are sold together as a complete and documented set.
