Carafe in empoli glass, Italian work around 1960. Carafe in the shape of a sitting dachshund, the stopper forming its head. Plastic part for a completely airtight cap. Clear molded glass. In very good condition, note: a defect in the glass at the neck which does not affect its condition or use. 37 x 10.5 x 9cm. Made in the Empoli glassworks in the 60s. Italian red wine (including barsottini) was sold in these types of bottles. Empoli is known for being a city of glass, just a few kilometers from Florence, the city of the renaissance. Its history begins in the modern age, with the revolution in the storage and transport of wine: we move from wooden or terracotta containers to glass bottles and carboys. The widespread use of glass containers – more hygienic, light and easily transportable – was made possible by the improvement of glass melting techniques in the most important centers of Val d'Elsa: in Montaione, Gambassi and empoli that we find most of the workshops of master glassmakers, many of them highly sought after by the court of the Grand Duke of Florence. Clean, fast and careful delivery or hand delivery to Paris / Reims / Laon.
