Large oil pastel on paper. Dimensions: 59 x 42 cm. To be framed signed and dated lower left by the artist. 1985. Henri matchavariani (born 1939) is a French painter, calligrapher and illustrator of Georgian and Romanian origin. He was artistic director in Paris and Milan. He creates numerous illustrations for the press (vogue) and advertising campaigns, notably for Air France. He worked closely with Helmut Newton on a project for Cacharel. His art is guided by the elegance of the line and by an imaginative gesture of flight, inspired by the Orient. His calligraphy corresponds to that of Christian Dotremont. An exhibition “henri matchavariani and christian dotremont” is planned soon. "only a few strokes, for economy, out of strict necessity for the board. A few touches like a glimmer of pastel or ink in the stillness of my white sheets. Just a few strokes, and no more than that." Henri Matchavariani Henri Matchavariani is also a personality of French cinema: he has done numerous dubbings, and regularly appears in supporting roles, notably in films by Philippe Claudel, Roman Polanski, etc. He currently co-stars with Michael Douglas in the title role of the Apple TV series: Benjamin Franklin.
